
All about our Container Return Program for Retailers

You want to help customers keep waste out of landfill, and we are here to make it as easy as possible! As you may have seen, all of our packaging is created with sustainability at the forefront of our minds. Our containers are either 100% compostable, recyclable, or eligible for our container return program.
When you send containers back to us to reuse, we are able to create a close-looped system, i.e. we are able to use the same materials over and over again to create new products for sale. This keeps items out of landfill and keeps them in a loop of reuse.
It’s also an amazing way to conserve natural resources that would be needed to create new containers. We don’t know about you, but we find all of that pretty exciting!
How does the Container Return Program work for retailers?
First and foremost, we'll always take any of our packaging back without question. We believe corporations are the largest polluters and the first step to fixing that is businesses taking responsibility for their waste. Retailers typically need to return one of two types of containers. Containers from bulk refills that have never left the store, and containers that come back from customers who have finished their products.
For bulk container returns, we ask that you collect as many jugs/buckets as you have space for, up to 4, before requesting a free return label.
For customer containers we ask that you request a free Container Return Box to collect things like used mascara tubes, lotion bar tins, skincare bottles, etc. When you request a Container Return Box, we'll list you in our directory as one of our in person drop off points. When customers email us asking for a return label, we check our directory to see if an in-person drop off point is nearby. If so, we encourage them to stop by and check out the store near them that carries our products. Once your box is full, you can request a free return label and replacement box.
How do I get a return label?
Regardless of what you're sending back to us, we always pay for return shipping! If you're shipping back bulk containers we'll need the weight and dimensions of the box you're shipping back to us. If you're returning a Container Return Box we already have the dimensions and expected weight. Once you've got that information handy, just send us an email at wholesale@zerraco.com requesting your free return label.
What containers qualify?
Any Zerra & Co. containers in good working condition are eligible for our container return program. Minor scratches, dents, or defects are fine, but no broken glass please.
We generally do not take back compostable packaging unless there are no composting facilities in your area. If composting facilities are not accessible to you or your customers we will take these back and make sure they are properly commercially composted.
What if your containers are NOT in good, working condition?
Any of our bamboo components, such as compacts and palettes, can be sent back to us. We can often repair them or use these broken palettes for spare parts to repair others.
For broken glass, follow your local municipalities guidelines on if this can be recycled or if it needs to be tossed.
For metal components, such as lids or tins, that are bent beyond repair, check your local recycling center to see if they'll accept them. If not, they can be returned to us for responsible recycling.
